Christmas Cookies and Food: Shapes and Designs

Christmas-Cookie-Cutters-anAh, Christmas cookies, a tradition for so many during the holidays. But it’s easy to make other kinds of foods in Christmas shapes and designs by just using cookie cutters or Christmas shape baking pans.

Shapes for All the Holiday Cookies

No matter what favorite cookie recipe you like, basic sugar cookies, chocolate chip, even rum-flavored cookies, can be made into a number of different holiday shapes. Using cookie cutters for any kind of food works great, too. Think of things like biscuits or scones. For any food item that you make dough and roll it out, you can use a holiday cookie cutter.

Christmas Baking Pans

If you want to make foods that don’t require starting with dough that is rolled out, you can still make Christmas shapes and designs by using baking or mold pans. Things like mini-cakes, savory breads and gelatins can all be made with holiday baking or mold pans.

Holiday Appetizer Ideas

Granted, I go pretty all out for the holidays. And not just for the desserts when I plan my menus for Christmas parties, holiday teas, or the big family dinner. You may not want to go all out, but maybe you are bringing a menu item to a party. Try holiday snack breads. It’s one of my favorites.

Use any kind of simple bread recipe. I’m not talking about the kind of bread that needs rising, but the quick breads. Either make up your own, or go easy with a ready made mix. Something like corn bread muffin mix works great.

Add in extras like nuts, chopped oils or shredded cheese, then pour the mixture into a Christmas shape baking pan. Adding a bit of food color if you like. Then decorate. I like to spread just a dab of softened cream cheese on top, place a leaf of basil or parsley then top with thin slice of cherry tomato. Delicious and ready for Christmas appetizers.
